Recently I got to speak with Johnny Winter, in a phone interview you may have heard on HPR… It’s also in the 2011 Interviews Player on the front page.
When he hit Honolulu, it was a huge thrill and honor to hang with him. We huddled for an incredible, once-in-a-lifetime chat before he hit the stage. This reclusive, enormously important blues legend, guitar icon, symbol of rock and the enduring spirit of rebellion it should capture in it’s most primal and explosive form took time for what was a revealing, candid moment of talking story. The image and often, sound, cultivated by this sorcerer of soulfulness is at the core of what rock is supposed to be, and I still am in awe to have this one to share.
There are also ten live videos, showcasing Johnny’s skill and talents through the years, plus a slideshow, relevant links, and background notes, all in this May issue of the Classic Interview Player.
Baring his soul for us in this new, full-length conversation recorded in April 2011 at Hawaiian Brian’s in Honolulu, I humbly offer you this intimate one-on-one moment, tucked away in the corner of the backstage area, with a hero of ages.
