HENDRIX DRUMMER MITCH MITCHELL REMEMBERED IN DAVE LAWRENCE INTERVIEW CLIP WITH CHICAGO DRUMMER TRIS IMBODEN

Vodpod videos no longer available.

Listen to a timely interview piece about Jimi Hendrix Experience drummer Mitch Mitchell, found dead in his hotel in Portland, Oregon, days after completing the Experience Hendrix tour. This interview excerpt is made from a recent one I recorded with Chicago drummer Tris Imboden, who spoke at length of getting to know Mitch Mitchell. Details include how he and Mitch became friends during a time Mitch lived in L.A., and would invite Tris over to his house for jams with other British friends. Sometimes Tris even got to play a drum kit side by side with Mitch Mitchell, also on drums, for what now must seem like pretty monumental moments. This lengthy, fascinating interview with Tris was recorded in May after the group Chicago played Honolulu’s Blaisdell Arena for a nearly sold out show (one of the largest attendances in that arena in years). He’s a talented, wonderfully kind guy, who is a monster drummer himself, adding enormously to Chicago’s meaty sound and contemporary, precision attack. In his storytelling, you can clearly tell how much Tris regards Mitch, who he brought up in a discussion of his favorite drummers. His thoughtful words, first-hand accounts, and detailed memories of times they spent together are meaningful to hear as we reflect on his tremendous legacy. I’m grateful to have it to share with you.

While above you can listen to an excerpt of the interview, hear the complete conversation in the “Current Interview Podcasts” section in the Dave Report.
