August Classic Interview Player issue: Watch my new interview with Puddle of Mudd

We’re celebrating three years of the Classic Interview Player monthly online magazine at DaveLawrenceOnline.com with a cool two-month party. July marked three years of presenting a fresh interview to digest each month, and we featured something from the vaults: Rush’s Alex Lifeson. We doubled the length of the originally aired interview, making it twice as long with previously unheard material from the original interview session back in 2003, and throwing down ten classic live Rush tracks on video, showcasing the band live through the years on some blistering tracks, much of it rarely seen film and video.

Now, making it sort of a “Then & Now” two-month celebration, we flash forward to 2011, and a brand new interview with Puddle of Mudd. This was recorded just two weeks ago when they were in town for Bayfest at the Marine Corps Base in Kaneohe. It was their first-ever show in Hawaii, and this long-form video interview follows up a long telephone chat recorded earlier in July and featured on HPR. Leader Wes Scantlin and I spoke on the phone, and this video chat features Wes and Paul Phillips of the Mudd sitting down pre-show for a fun yet revealing convo. This very fresh, just-out-of-the-oven interview is special as it’s a parallel feature to a new entry in my HPR DL New Release Blog, which will be posted soon with the audio portion of the new interview… Here in the Classic Interview Player, you can watch the same interview, seeing how it all went down, and enjoy ten live POM videos shot through the years. Check out the last two for both a wailing jam from the Bayfest show, and also see them play their new single, Gimmie Shelter from the Re(disc)covered CD of covers… shot just the other night on July 30 in Cleveland.

Enjoy the Mudd, and a big mahalo to brothers Wes and Paul for sitting down with me. I loved hanging and appreciate the kind hospitality and candor. Fun times, dudes. Be safe — aloha!

Hear the April Classic Interview Player issue w/my guest BB King!

What an incredible celebration as the King rolls through Hawaii for his first time since 2002.

Relive this moment in time, with a rarely heard segment from our lengthy backstage session that fateful night in November 2002 when BB King played the Blaisdell Arena in Honolulu, and was my guest for the second of two interviews that month.

For nearly a half hour, BB and I shared rock stories and memories. It was the follow-up to a phoner to promote the show, and a small portion of sound clips was used through the years. Once, a long-form extract based on those same sound clips was presented. It was nearly half of the material recorded that evening. Now, for the first time in over five years, hear that long-form extract, as heard previously on a single broadcast. It’s a fitting way for our April Classic Interview Player issue to honor BB as he returns to the Blaisdell April 27 in Honolulu.

Accompanying the interview, see a cool through the years slide show, including vintage BB pics from his early years that aren’t often seen.

Perhaps best of all, catch 10 live videos, featuring not only fun and classic BB TV appearances, but also BB sharing the stage with Eric Clapton, Stevie Ray and Jimmie Vaughan, Buddy Guy, Ray Charles, Little Richard, Billy Preston, Chuck Berry, Bo Diddley, James Brown, U2, and many others. It’s a video tribute well-worth digging into.

Enjoy and thanks for stopping by. Be sure to add me on Facebook. Mahalo.

NEW INTERVIEW: MICK FLEETWOOD

Mick joins a cast of celebrities like Tom Arnold, Cheech Marin, William Shatner and others for the Maui Celebrity Series December 30th concert in Lahaina.

Over the years living here, this call from the Valley Isle makes interview number six, equally divided between phoners and in-person. The first time was an April 2007 phoner to promote the Crater Festival 2007. He performed with the Island Rumours Band at the Royal Hawaiian Hotel Monarch Room in May for a media event connected to the crater thing, and we did a live phone interview, plus recorded a separate one that day. In September 2007, he performed at my five year anniversary concert and did another set of interviews on the phone and at the venue. This latest conversation talked up the show, explored his new position on the Maui Memorial Foundation Board, life in the islands, and more. Listen for it soon on HPR, and get an extended interview of it afterward on their site and here.
