ABOUT DAVE LAWRENCE:

Dave Lawrence is one of the most widely heard voices on the air in Hawaii radio today. As a radio personality in Honolulu, Hawaii, he’s heard statewide and streaming live weekday afternoons as Honolulu host of NPR’s national PM Drive radio show, All Things Considered, on Hawaii Public Radio. All Things Considered is the most listened to afternoon drive radio show in the United States. Across the Hawaiian Islands it ranks number one with the largest overall radio audience, and most listeners, of any afternoon show in the state. The HPR radio community is a statewide radio entity, and every weekday, Dave is heard locally in each major population center.

Professional background includes over five years as Music Director and Afternoon Drive DJ at 105.9 KPOI in Honolulu, segment host of “Dave On The Rock” reports with Hawaii TV/comedy icon Andy Bumatai on “The Andy Bumatai Show,” host of rock news and interview segments on the Shovio Talk Network, nearly a decade as part of the team on CBS/Infinity Boston rock radio stations WBCN and WZLX (including airstaff, morning and afternoon producer, copywriter and production assistant); and Music Director/Afternoon Host at WERS, Boston, Emerson College, recording and producing the schools first-ever CD, Live On Gyroscope (a compilation of in-studio live on-air performances and an NACB Award Winner).

Dave brings consistent ratings success, a winning presentation and substantial on-air/online content. Dave values listeners and treats them with a respect that has won him an ever-growing following in the islands over a decade of afternoon radio. He connects with the audience, the advertisers, and the artists. He gets the big picture and is both a listeners best friend and driving companion, and an advertiser or underwriter’s trusted ally, never letting spot breaks go without spicy front-sells, and valuing both parties commitment to the station. Years of mentoring by legendary radio giants Charles Laquidara and Mark Parenteau translates into Dave being at home with the artists and putting them at ease, in-studio or on-location, recording interviews with music heavyweights and pop culture superstars. Arriving in Honolulu in 2002, Dave became known as the preeminent Honolulu rock jock, anchoring an afternoon show filled with artist and listener phone-ins, interviews, features, and fun, entertaining and earning top male Arb rankings in the greater Honolulu radio market, while also reaching Maui and the Kona coast of the Big Island (most population centers in Hawaii).  Dave Lawrence’s day-part consistently ranked number 1 men 25-54;  that ranking joins number 2 rankings as making up the results more than 50% of the time over five years in Honolulu afternoon drive. The authentic, wide appeal of the Workforce Afternoon also achieved consistent top 5 dominance with persons/all adults 25-54, including ranking #3 in three of his last four books on KPOI. On HPR, Dave Lawrence has emerged to reach the single largest audience of his career, with a statewide signal reaching nearly the entire population of Hawaii via a network of transmitters, repeaters and translators. An example of this would be consistent Eastlan radio ratings from Maui, Hilo and Kona, with across the board number two rankings in each. HPR brings Dave’s trademark interviews and radio presentation as Honolulu Host of All Things Considered to not only the largest radio market in the state, but also the most diverse radio station in Hawaii. HPR’s high quality national shows from NPR and other sources are coupled with strong in-house local programming, making a perfect home for Dave as a veteran Honolulu broadcaster with a career background in drawing compelling stories from fabled artists while connecting to the ‘local bruddas’. Following a half-decade on 105.9 in Honolulu, Dave Lawrence now reaches a far larger audience that crosses cultural and economic boundaries, while still being the single most affluent demographic in the state.

Dave delivers killer phones, real audience rapport, a mountain of artist endorsements, interviews and IDs, money-making original features, crisp production, and great results. On the phone and on-location, listeners identify with Dave’s authentic, conversational style. Through station events and the airwaves, the listener community developed into an identity of it’s own, starting their own fan site, the DL Army, springing from the kind of personal listener connection Dave makes as his hallmark. THE REVENUE-GENERATING FEATURES: The 4:20, Live @ Five and Sabbath @ Six. Dave conceived three successful daily creative features that allowed maximum listener interactivity, client satisfaction, musical variation, and creative repackaging/recycling of core material/artists. The always-growing audio vaults that come with Dave include hundreds of personalized IDs and endorsements, 4:20 introductions, and other production accents.

Interviewing music and pop culture celebrities is one of Dave Lawrence’s gifts.
